“Growing up in Alabama, I have contended my love for the red subsoil, beautifully saturated sunsets, and lush green mountains of the land with my disdain for its history. Does the land disapprove of the actions its people perform atop it? Does she grit her teeth and release deep sighs of anger as the wind shakes the trees? Does she blush and soften at the sound of black children laughing and playing in the afternoon sun, after all that she’s seen? Does she see herself in us?”

“Textiles are important to me in these explorations, as they are a surface almost inseparable from humanity. They brush up against our bodies all day, and engulf us at the end of the day when we shut our eyes to rest. They occupy a space in aesthetics and fashion, but also comfort and utility.”

Through the utilization of textiles paired with painting and collage techniques, her art functions as an exploration of the relationship between humanity, land, and history.
